Coming just months after the Europe '72 tour that produced one of the band's most beloved official releases, the Dead arrived in Oregon at an absolute peak, road-hardened and loose, playing for old friends in a setting that stripped away any pretense of a conventional concert.

On August 27, 1972, fresh off their now-legendary European tour, the Grateful Dead traveled to Veneta, Oregon and reunited with the Merry Pranksters to throw a benefit concert for the Kesey family's Springfield Creamery. The show was recorded and filmed but never officially released for decades — and in the years since, it became the most-requested live show in Grateful Dead history.

The setlist is a masterclass in peak-era Dead, moving from the opening "Promised Land" through fan favorites like "China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider," "Playing in the Band," and "Bird Song," before culminating in a soaring "Dark Star" deep into the second set.
