guero-vinyl-mint-m-mint-m
Guero (VINYL) | Mint (M) Mint (M)

Beck's sixth major-label album is a stunning return to the anything-goes format of 1996's ODELAY. Standing in sharp contrast to its predecessor--the quiet, somber SEA CHANGE--2005's GUERO is the sound of the Los Angeles singer/songwriter cutting loose and getting back to the slacker funk that won him legions of fans in the 1990s. "E-Pro" kicks off the festivities with a heavy guitar riff and a Beastie Boys-sampled beat, while "Que Onda Guero" revels in a sunny Latin vibe, with Beck rapping (surprisingly well) in Spanish. However, this outing also offers up MUTATIONS-worthy melodic pop, particularly on "Girl," a brilliantly catchy tune carried along by acoustic guitar, handclaps, and lush vocal harmonies. Beck's reunion with sound sculptors Mike Simpson and John King (the Dust Brothers) breathes plenty of life into these tracks, including the heavily percussive "Black Tambourine" and the '70s-inspired "Earthquake Weather." Jack White (of the famously bass-less White Stripes) lends a bluesy bass line to "Go It Alone," while many of Beck's longtime musicians (guitarist Smokey Hormel, bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen) turn up throughout the record. An album that features Beck energetically jumping back into his renowned cut-and-paste aesthetic, GUERO is sure to please longtime fans, and may win over young listeners who thought that he was primarily a sad-sack folkie.

Label: Interscope Records – B0025356-01
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Gatefold
Country: US
Released: Dec 2, 2016
Genre: Electronic, Hip Hop, Rock
Style: Indie Rock, Electro, Alternative Rock, Pop Rock

A1 E-Pro
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Guitar, Bass – Beck
Written-By [Co-written By] – Beastie Boys
3:22
A2 Qué Onda Guero
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Sounds [Additional Sounds] – Charlie Capen
Vocals, Sounds [Additional Sounds] – Beck
Voice [Dude] – Paolo Diaz
3:29
A3 Girl
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Guitar, Slide Guitar, Bass, Programmed By [Intro Programming] – Beck
3:30
A4 Missing
Arranged By [Strings Arranged By] – Beck, David Campbell
Bass – Sean Davis
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Percussion – Beck
Written-By [Co-written By] – Carlos Eduardo Lyra*, Marcos Vinicus de Moraes*
4:44
A5 Black Tambourine
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Bass, Guitar, Tambourine – Beck
Written-By [Co-written By] – Eugene Blacknell
2:46
A6 Earthquake Weather
Bass – Justin Meldal-Johnsen
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Clavinet – Roger Joseph Manning Jr.
Drums – Joey Waronker
Electric Guitar – Smokey Hormel
Organ – Money Mark
Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar – Beck
Written-By [Co-written By] – Daniel Webster*, Mark Adams, Mark Hicks, Steve Washington*
4:26
B1 Hell Yes
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Bass, Harmonica, Vocoder – Beck
Voice [Girl] – Kurisuti-na
3:18
B2 Broken Drum
Vocals, Piano, Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Celesta, Drums, Beats – Beck
4:30
B3 Scarecrow
Vocals, Harmonica, Guitar, Bass – Beck
4:16
B4 Go It Alone
Bass – Jack White (2)
Beats, Handclaps – The Dust Brothers
Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards, Handclaps – Beck
Written-By [Co-written By] – Jack White (2)
4:09
B5 Farewell Ride
Vocals, Slide Guitar, Percussion, Kalimba, Piano, Beats – Beck
4:19
B6 Rental Car
Bass, Guitar [Guitar Sounds] – Justin Meldal-Johnsen
Beats – The Dust Brothers
Clavinet – Roger Joseph Manning Jr.
Vocals – Petra Haden
Vocals, Electric Guitar, Bass, Percussion, Handclaps, 12-String Acoustic Guitar – Beck
3:05
B7 Emergency Exit
Arranged By [Strings Arranged By] – Beck, David Campbell
Vocals, Slide Guitar, Bass, Handclaps, Percussion [Stomp], Twelve-String Guitar, Percussion – Beck
4:01

Phonographic Copyright ℗ – Interscope Records
Copyright © – Interscope Records
Distributed By – Universal Music Distribution
Produced At – The Boat
Produced At – Mad Hatter Studios
Produced At – The Sound Factory
Recorded At – The Boat
Recorded At – Mad Hatter Studios
Recorded At – The Sound Factory
Mixed At – The Boat
Mixed At – Mad Hatter Studios
Mixed At – The Sound Factory
Published By – Youthless
Published By – Kobalt Music Publishing
Published By – Dust Brothers Music
Published By – Universal Music Corp.
Published By – Brooklyn Dust Music
Published By – Universal -
