It was recorded and mixed live to stereo tape\u003cbr\u003e\r\nby Bryce Gonzales (the same engineer\/wizard known for his gorgeous live\u003cbr\u003e\r\ncaptures\/mixes of Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet).\u003cbr\u003e\r\nBetween HOW YOU BEEN and their 2024 debut SMALL MEDIUM LARGE\u003cbr\u003e\r\n(both of which were heavily edited, shaped and post-produced) the band has\u003cbr\u003e\r\ndeveloped a reputation for records that are heavily fused, polished, and punchy.\u003cbr\u003e\r\nThe medium is on full post-modern display on those LPs, and the band’s post-\u003cbr\u003e\r\nproduction knife can be responsible for much of the perspective—the tastiest\u003cbr\u003e\r\nmorsels collected, arranged, and rearranged just so.\u003cbr\u003e\r\nSpontaneous Music Live removes the curatorial perspective and pulls the\u003cbr\u003e\r\ncurtain back on that search-pluck-reconstruct editing process. What we’re left\u003cbr\u003e\r\nwith is the psychedelic realism of the band in situ, in their home town,\u003cbr\u003e\r\ncollectively improvising, fully in-the-moment, mining for that moment of\u003cbr\u003e\r\ndiscovery.
