Released in 1998 after a four-year gap following *Ill Communication*, Hello Nasty debuted at number one in both the US and UK and swept the Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap Album and Best Rap Duo or Group Performance. MCA, Ad-Rock, and Mike D built the record around a sprawling mix of hip-hop, jazz samples, and their own live instrumentation, with Mix Master Mike's turntablism woven throughout as a fourth creative voice.
It's been a dozen years since the Beastie Boys broke, and on Hello Nasty, they show that--though they've grown up, matured, and just gotten older--they're still in touch with the inner brat that always made them so much fun. Turns out that the brat's turned into an ace record collector with choice taste in collaborators, too.
