Released in 1998, Hello Nasty debuted at number one in both the US and the UK, a commercial peak that somehow arrived without any creative compromise. The record's pinball-machine logic, bouncing from big band jazz to dub to hardcore punk fragments, reflected how deeply Adam Yauch, Adam Horovitz, and Mike Diamond had absorbed the full sweep of New York's sonic history by that point in their career.
A startlingly diverse effort, the Beasties' fifth LP saw the welcome addition of a new DJ, the abundantly skilled Mix Master Mike of the Invizibl Skratch Picklz. A quirky but effective combination of old school fundamentals ("Three MC's and One DJ") and futuristic trickery ("Intergalactic"), this album successfully conveys their energy, originality, and spark. This 2 LP set is pressed on 180 gram vinyl.
