Discover a remarkable new chapter in the career of Bernie Taupin with The Sea Has No Mercy, his deeply personal 2026 album featuring 10 beautifully crafted folk songs. Best known as Elton John's legendary longtime songwriting partner, Taupin steps into the spotlight with an entirely self-written collection that showcases his extraordinary gift for storytelling, evocative imagery, and heartfelt expression.

Inspired in part by his acclaimed memoir Scattershot, the album draws upon a lifetime of memories, relationships, and experiences. Highlights include "Fisherman," "Old Church Road," "The Sea Has No Mercy," "Elephant Boy," "Ghosts of Greater Men," and "Old Dog." Special collaborations include Brandi Carlile on "Come On California" and Taupin's daughter Georgey Devon Taupin on the touching closing track "One Hundred Ways."

Recorded in Nashville with acclaimed producer Frank Liddell, the album blends intimate folk songwriting with warm Americana influences and richly atmospheric arrangements. Additional contributions from Lee Ann Womack help bring Taupin's deeply reflective musical vision to life.

Presented in a handsome Digipak CD edition featuring a 12-page lyric booklet, The Sea Has No Mercy is a wonderful addition to any Bernie Taupin, Elton John, Americana, or contemporary folk music collection.

Bernie Taupin has spent five decades as one of rock's most celebrated lyricists, his words carried by Elton John across some of the best-known songs of the 20th century. Hearing those same storytelling instincts applied to his own voice, unmediated, is something fans have never had before. The Nashville setting suits him well, placing his imagery-driven writing in a tradition that prizes exactly what he does best.
