Ten days after this session was recorded, Scott LaFaro was killed in a car accident at age 25, making these Village Vanguard recordings among the most bittersweet documents in jazz history. The interplay between Evans and LaFaro captured here redefined what a piano trio could be, with the bass functioning as a true melodic equal rather than a timekeeper.
Official colored vinyl reissue of the Bill Evans Trio’s iconic album, Sunday At The Village Vanguard, recorded live at the Village Vanguard in New York City, NY on June 25, 1961. Featuring Scott LaFaro (bass) and Paul Motian (drums). Available at an affordable price on Clear Orange vinyl.
