Recorded without drummer Will Heggie's replacement Simon Raymonde, Victorialand strips the Cocteau Twins down to just Robin Guthrie's guitar and Elizabeth Fraser's voice, creating one of the most ethereal records in the 4AD catalog. Released in 1986 while Raymonde was on tour with This Mortal Coil, the album leans into pure texture and atmosphere, Fraser's vocals functioning less as lyrics than as an instrument dissolving into Guthrie's layered soundscapes.
Victorialand, Cocteau Twins' fourth album, was released in spring 1986.
