Curtis Amy spent most of the 1960s recording for Pacific Jazz out of Los Angeles, becoming a cornerstone of the West Coast hard bop scene that often flew under the radar of its New York counterpart. The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach was one of the great live rooms of that era, and catching Amy in that room with a young Roy Ayers on vibes makes this a document worth serious attention.
Tenor saxophonist Curtis Amy recorded his powerhouse live album, Tippin' On Through, for Pacific Jazz in 1962 at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, California with a stacked sextet featuring Roy Brewster on trombone, Roy Ayers on vibraphone, John Houston on piano, Bob Whitlock on bass, and Lawrence Marable on drums. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket.
