George Martin's orchestral treatments of Beatles material weren't novelty records or cash-ins; they were extensions of the same musical imagination that shaped the original recordings from the inside. As the architect of the Beatles' studio sound, Martin brought an insider's fluency to these arrangements, understanding exactly which melodic and harmonic elements could carry the weight of a full orchestra.
