Jason Lytle wrote The Sophtware Slump in Modesto, California, recording it largely on his own with modest gear, and that tension between lo-fi intimacy and grand, aching ambition is exactly what made it resonate so deeply. The Sophtware Slump, Grandaddy's classic album and one of the most beloved and prescient indie-rock records of it's era, is back in print in a limited edition repress on "Dial-a-View Blue" vinyl. Originally released in 2000, Pitchfork called The Sophtware Slump "a sad, quaint, low-key Y2K-era classic," and the album's themes of technology, isolation, and environmental decay grow more relevant with each passing year. The rapturous, multi-generational reception to Grandaddy's recent tour celebrating the 25th anniversary demonstrates the enduring legacy of this seminal band.
