Harry Connick Jr. grew up in New Orleans steeped in the city's deep orchestral and jazz traditions, studying with Ellis Marsalis and developing a command of large ensemble composition that has always run beneath his more visible pop and vocal work. That classical fluency, rarely foregrounded in his commercial releases, is the architecture holding this piece together.

Babe: Elaboratio is Harry Connick Jr.'s most personal work to date: a 50-minute orchestral piece for piano, big band, and full orchestra, written as a tribute to his mother. Connick was ten years old when his mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer; she died three years later, when he was thirteen. Sweeping in scope and deeply intimate in origin, Babe: Elaboratio finds Connick moving beyond the stage to reveal a side of his story he's never shared before - the private grief, memory, and devotion behind the music. Whether you know Harry Connick Jr. As a Grammy- and Emmy-winning vocalist, pianist, actor, or bandleader, Babe: Elaboratio stands apart as a singular artistic statement - a son's musical love letter to his mother, four and a half decades in the making.
