Jim James had been the spiritual center of My Morning Jacket for over a decade before stepping out alone, and this 2013 debut showed just how far his songwriting wandered from the band's Southern rock roots, deep into orchestral soul, dreamy funk, and contemplative R&B territory influenced by his study of philosopher and artist Howard Finster. The b-sides and demos on this expanded edition fill in the margins of that creative leap, revealing the meditative process behind one of the more quietly adventurous solo debuts to emerge from the jam and Americana world in recent memory.
Released in 2013, Regions of Light and Sound of God was the debut solo album from Jim James of My Morning Jacket. This deluxe reissue features the original album plus a second LP of twelve b-sides, demos and alternate versions including “State of The Art (Demo)” and the previously unheard ballad “Begin Again”. The 2xLP is housed in a rainbow foil tip-on gatefold jacket with revised artwork, a fold-out insert and is pressed on clear/purple blob vinyl.
