Recorded on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day 1969-1970, these Fillmore East shows marked a deliberate pivot for Hendrix toward a harder, funkier sound rooted in the all-Black lineup he'd assembled with Cox and Miles. "Machine Gun," dedicated that night to soldiers fighting in Vietnam, stands among the most politically charged and emotionally raw performances he ever committed to tape.
Long hailed as a touchstone of blues, funk and rock, this remastered collection was captured on tape during the two spectacular 1970 Fillmore East performances.
