Recorded in the spring of 1964, just months before the sessions that would yield A Love Supreme, Crescent captures the Classic Quartet at a moment of profound focus, the four musicians operating with a collective intuition that comes only from years of shared stages and studios. The title track alone stands as one of the most quietly devastating performances in Coltrane's catalog, a ballad that settles into your chest and stays there.
Digitally remastered 180gm vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. Released in 1964, Crescent is one of John Coltrane's finest albums, featuring the talents of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. On April 27, the Classic Quartet went to the familiar surroundings of Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliff's studio to begin work on the album that came to be called, Crescent.
