Long before he became the Woodstock lightning bolt who electrified rock audiences in 1969, Johnny Winter was deep in the Texas blues tradition, absorbing the music at its roots. Recorded in 1969 for Janus Records, this early document captures Winter in a raw, acoustic and semi-acoustic setting, paying direct homage to the Delta and Chicago influences that shaped him, including material tied to Mose Allison and the classic blues canon.
