The Rio-born guitarist arrived on this record with a rhythmic approach so singular that Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, and Gilberto Gil all recognized him as a defining voice of a new Brazilian sound. Drawing from American soul music and using, for the time, state of the art audio effects, and blending traditional Brazilian rhythms into his international breakthrough album.
