With his new double album *Baroque Colours*, Martin Stadtfeld presents a unique palette of colorful Baroque works. And he does so in a truly distinctive format: for the first part, he selected 19 wonderful, short original pieces—including works by Bach, Rameau, and Handel, as well as by lesser-known composers such as Johann Kuhnau and Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace Royer. For the second part, Stadtfeld chose several of his favorite Baroque pieces and newly arranged them for the piano. Thus, listeners can rediscover the captivating melodies from the "Summer" and "Winter" movements of Vivaldi’s famous *Four Seasons*—reimagined as brief, exquisite piano pieces. Also featured is Johann Pachelbel’s celebrated *Canon*, presented in a new arrangement for piano four-hands, which Martin Stadtfeld recorded alongside pianist Lilian Akopova. Akopova also joins him for the four-hand arrangements of Bach’s first Prelude and the *Passacaglia* from Lully’s opera *Armida*. The piano arrangements of music from Purcell’s opera *The Fairy-Queen* offer another truly memorable experience. Stadtfeld’s improvisations—based on themes by Bach (including the famous *Air* and *Minuet*), works by Arcangelo Corelli, and the hymn *Ach bleib mit Deiner Gnade*—possess an almost meditative quality. The collection’s 45 pieces were recorded on a modern Steinway piano, capturing a soundscape that is both intimate and warm, thereby allowing the full richness of color and intensity to be conveyed directly to the listener. It is akin to standing before a vibrant Baroque painting, continually discovering new shades and hues.
