The first multi-label overview of Louisiana-born singer Oscar McLollie's irresistable 1950s recordings, covering much of his output for Class, Modern, and Mercury Records. On record, at least, McLollie's Honey Jumpers consisted of top West Coast studio musicians mainly led and arranged by tenor sax supremo Maxwell Davis, often with The Flairs vocal group on ensemble or back-up vocals. Although he never enjoyed any quantifiable national hits, Oscar McLollie had several local best-sellers and even saw 1950s releases in Canada, Jamaica, France, Belgium and the UK. Many of his recordings were covered by other contemporary artists who enjoyed greater success, such as Louis Prima & Keely Smith, Ralph Marterie, Louis Jordan, Tony Martin, Charlie Ventura and the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. A 10" LP featuring the best of his uptempo Modern tracks became a surprise underground hit on the rock 'n' roll circuit in the early 1980s, prompting a single reissue of the title track "Roll, Hot Rod, Roll". It's high time the music of Oscar McLollie and his band was made available once more!
