Adrian Quesada and Martin Perna were already deep in the Afrobeat and Latin soul underground when they recorded this together, Quesada bringing his Texas roots-funk sensibility and Perna the polyrhythmic firepower he'd honed fronting Antibalas. The "lost film" conceit gives the record a cinematic drift that suits both of them perfectly, all atmosphere and groove with no filler in between.
Available for the first time on vinyl, El Niño y El Sol is the debut album from Ocote Soul Sounds, originally released in 2006 via ESL Music. This unique musical collaboration between Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas) and Martin Perna (Antibalas, DapKings) is a hearty sonic stew of soulful flavors spanning genres from jazz, Afrobeat, Latin, funk, and beyond.
