When Paul Butterfield stepped away from his iconic Blues Band in the early '70s, he didn't retreat , he regrouped with a looser, rootsier outfit that brought in Geoff Muldaur, Amos Garrett, and David Sanborn, among others. Better Days leaned into country blues, gospel, and jug band influences with a warmth the original band rarely had time for, and this Rhino reissue makes a strong case for why the project deserves as much attention as anything Butterfield put his name on.
