Mike Hadreas made Too Bright in 2014 as a deliberate rupture from the hushed bedroom intimacy of his first two records, enlisting producer Adrian Utley of Portishead to push the sound into something harder, stranger, and more confrontational. The result was a record that addressed queerness, shame, and visibility with a directness that felt genuinely radical in indie rock circles at the time.
Reissued on crystal clear vinyl for the 10th anniversary this September, 'Too Bright,' remains an early standout of Perfume Genius's (Mike Hadreas) unparalleled oeuvre.
