Released at a moment when punk was declaring war on arena rock, News of the World was Queen's defiant answer, doubling down on anthemic bombast while simultaneously stripping things back to something rawer and more direct than their baroque prog leanings of earlier records. The Brian May and Roger Taylor one-two punch that opens side one became the backbone of stadium culture worldwide, turning up at sporting events and arenas long before most of the bands playing those venues were even formed.
Queen's sixth studio album, News of the World, reinforced the multiplatinum success of their previous releases while also branching out into new genres. Released in 1977, it includes the massive worldwide hits, "We Will Rock You," and "We Are the Champions." This reissue has been sourced from the original master tapes and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
