New York's Quicksand arrived at *Manic Compression* in 1995 already carrying the weight of a scene in transition, bridging the gap between hardcore's intensity and the melodic pull of alternative rock with a precision few of their peers could match. Walter Schreifels and company pushed further into textured, groove-heavy territory here, and the result holds up as a cornerstone of mid-90s post-hardcore that still sounds urgent thirty years on.
