Recorded in a single June 1956 session for Prestige, Saxophone Colossus captured Rollins at the peak of his hard bop powers, including his calypso-inflected reading of "St. Thomas" that became one of the most recognizable tenor saxophone performances in jazz history. The rhythm section here is no afterthought; Max Roach's drumming alone makes this essential listening.
Official colored vinyl reissue of the iconic 1957 Sonny Rollins album, Saxophone Colossus, featuring Tommy Flanagan (piano), Dough Watkins (bass) and Max Roach (drums). Available at an affordable price on Clear Blue vinyl.
