When this record landed in 1964, it didn't just introduce American ears to bossa nova, it rewired what jazz could feel like. Getz's famously warm, breathy tenor found its perfect counterpart in Gilberto's intimate, conversational guitar and the understated genius of pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim, who co-produced the sessions. The Grammy for Album of the Year that followed was a rare mainstream acknowledgment of something the musicians already knew: that this meeting of cultures was something genuinely new.
Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing in deluxe gatefold jacket. The marvelous album, Getz/Gilberto, had a profound influence upon the face of jazz and American popular music. The stunning 1964 collaboration between Stan Getz, one of the most respected tenor saxophonists of the era, and the remarkable Brazilian guitarist Joao Gilberto, launched the bossa nova craze and the career of Joao's wife Astrud Gilberto with iconic hit "The Girl from Ipanema". Acoustic Sounds Series features all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
