Released in 1996, High on the Hog found Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Garth Hudson proving that the Band's DNA ran deeper than any lineup change. With Jim Weider holding down the guitar chair and Randy Ciarlante sharing drum duties with Helm, this was a working road band at full strength, not a nostalgia act coasting on legend.
From its first driving percussive beats and fuzzy guitar riffs, High on the Hog soars. More than two years after Jericho, the group's impressive comeback album, the Band still sounds gorgeously funky and unlike any other -- even with the loss of two key members (Robbie Robertson quit in 1976; Richard Manuel took his own life in 1986).
