Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was already a fixture in the soul jazz movement when this set was captured at a Chicago SCLC gathering led by Jesse Jackson, whose sermonic voice opens the record. The quintet's blend of jazz, gospel, and funk found its ideal room here, where the congregation wasn't just an audience but a participant.
Country Preacher is a live album recorded by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet in 1969. Recorded at an unidentified church meeting of the Chicago chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Operation Breadbasket.
