Portland's The Thermals built their reputation on tight, urgent punk rock that never lost its melodic center, and by 2013 Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster had spent a decade proving that brevity and intensity aren't mutually exclusive. Desperate Ground arrived at a moment when the band had fully grown into their identity, channeling the kind of raw, unpolished energy that made Saddle Creek a home for artists who play loud but think carefully about what they're saying.
Desperate Ground is the sixth album (and the first to be released on Omaha's Saddle Creek) from Portland's The Thermals. The album was produced by John Agnello whose previous credits include Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and the Hold Steady. The band describes the album as "a cross between two of our best-known and -loved records, More Parts Per Million and The Body, The Blood, The Machine/i>. It's loud, fast, incredibly scary and undeniably catchy." LP includes a download card.
