Beginning in 1875 during the Spanish Civil War, Vacas tells of the lingering feud between the Mendiluze and Iriguibel families and follows the two warring factions and how inevitably connected they are as their children and their children's children find themselves drawn to each other. Praised by the New York Times for it's 'epic sweep and magical realist sensibility,' Vacas received the 1993 Goya Award (Spain's equivalent of the Oscars) for Best New Director. The DVD contains a new widescreen transfer (enhanced for 16x9 televisions) and additional special features.
