Recorded when Willie Colón was barely out of his teens, *Cosa Nuestra* captured a South Bronx street energy that would define Fania Records' golden era and help establish salsa as a genuinely urban, New York art form. Colón's trombone-heavy arrangements gave Héctor Lavoe's voice the perfect foil, a gritty, brassy backdrop that matched the emotional intensity Lavoe brought to every line he sang.
Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe’s first gold-selling release for Fania arrived in 1969. Driven by standout tracks largely written by the duo — including “Ché Ché Colé,†“Juana Peña,†“Te Conozco,†and the bolero “Ausencia†— Cosa Nuestra became their breakthrough album and a cornerstone of Latin music history. In 2024, Rolling Stone named it one of the 50 Greatest Salsa Albums of All Time. This remastered edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl with AAA lacquers cut from the original master tapes.
