Recorded when Willie Colón was barely out of his teens, Cosa Nuestra captured a South Bronx street sensibility that hit different from anything else on the Fania roster. Colón's trombone-heavy arrangements and Lavoe's vocals, with their uncanny blend of playfulness and raw ache, helped establish New York salsa as its own distinct force, separate from its Cuban roots and fully alive to the barrio experience.
Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe’s first gold-selling release for Fania arrived in 1969. Driven by standout tracks largely written by the duo — including “Ché Ché Colé,†“Juana Peña,†“Te Conozco,†and the bolero “Ausencia†— Cosa Nuestra became their breakthrough album and a cornerstone of Latin music history. In 2024, Rolling Stone named it one of the 50 Greatest Salsa Albums of All Time. This remastered edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl with AAA lacquers cut from the original master tapes.
