Combining choral vocals, volcanic Diola percussion, and alto saxophone, Baye Coly created an entirely original musical language, unique not only in Casamance but anywhere in the world. Having inspired many followers across Senegal, he pioneered a style that brings the traditional melodies of Casamance villages to life through the saxophone. Manu Dibango himself once described this as one of his favorite albums, recognizing in it a completely distinctive approach to playing: raw, deeply expressive phrasing, short bursts of breath, and the joyful spirit of Diola ceremonies.
