California cool runs deep in this 10" collection, which draws from the fertile postwar West Coast scene that gave rise to a distinctly relaxed, cerebral counterpoint to the harder-swinging sounds coming out of New York. The musicians who defined this sound, many of them working Los Angeles and San Francisco sessions in the early 1950s, brought an arranger's ear and a chamber sensibility to jazz that still sounds effortless decades later.
This reissue will be released as part of the Blue Note 10” series – this is a collection of the best of West Coast – specifically – California Jazz.
