Rod Stewart gets the headlines, but the Faces were always a band in the truest sense, five equals feeding off each other's energy in a way that rarely translates to tape. These BBC recordings catch them at their loose, ramshackle peak, when Ronnie Lane's soulful low-end and Ian McLagan's rolling organ were just as central to the sound as any frontman. Their cover choices alone tell you everything: Robert Johnson and Paul McCartney in the same session, played like both were written in the same pub.

A new double LP Faces title featuring a previously-unreleased performance from John Peel’s Sunday Concert. The show, recorded on May 13, 1971 and broadcast May 23, featured the classic Faces lineup of Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood on guitar/vocals, Ronnie Lane and bass/vocals, Ian McLagan on keyboards/ vocals and Kenney Jones on drums.
