Before Sam Phillips signed Elvis or discovered Johnny Cash, he was capturing Chester Burnett growling and howling in Memphis, laying down some of the most visceral recordings in American music history. These early Sun sides, recorded when Wolf was already in his early 40s, show a fully formed artist whose ferocity and raw power would go on to reshape Chicago blues and influence generations of rock and roll.
Vinyl LP pressing. Howlin' Wolf recorded some of his finest work while in Memphis, Tennessee from 1951-1952 with legendary producer and Sun Records founder, Sam Phillips, who once remarked, "When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies'." This essential 14-track album features the very best of those sessions, all in one place.
