Jimmy McGriff came up through the organ soul-jazz tradition alongside Jimmy Smith and Brother Jack McDuff, but his grittier, blues-soaked touch always set him apart. Recorded at the height of the boogaloo era, this session finds him stretching toward the swinging big band vocabulary of Basie's Kansas City lineage, a natural bridge between the chitlin circuit and the jazz mainstream that McGriff navigated better than almost anyone of his generation.
Digitally remastered reissue of this 1966 release in which McGriff nods his hat to the enormous musical influence of Count Basie. 10 tracks including 'Cherry Point', 'Swingin' the Blues', 'Everyday I Have the Blues' and more. Blue Note. 2006.
