Josh Johnson built his reputation as a Chicago sideman whose alto saxophone work graces records and stages far beyond what his name recognition might suggest, collaborating with artists across jazz, soul, and experimental spaces. *Animative* is his statement as a bandleader, a chance to hear the full arc of his musical thinking without filtering it through someone else's vision.
