Peterson's piano touch was so distinctive that musicians and critics often described it as orchestral, capable of filling a room the way a full ensemble would. By the late 1980s, he had spent decades refining his interplay with guitar legend Joe Pass, and the chemistry heard in Helsinki reflects a working band at full trust, where spontaneity and precision arrive in the same breath.

In 1987, Oscar Peterson led his quartet - featuring Joe Pass, Dave Young and Martin Drew - through the final engagement of their 14-concert European fall tour at Helsinki's famed Kulttuuritalo. "A Time for Love" captures Peterson's desire to focus on performing original compositions alongside timeless classics at the pinnacle of the group's creative stride.
