Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip, Robben Ford, and Ricky Lawson arrived fully formed on this 1981 debut, drawing from West Coast session culture and a shared instinct for groove that set them apart from the more aggressive fusion of the era. The remaster and previously unheard demos offer a rare window into how these arrangements took shape before the tape rolled.
The Yellowjackets are one of the most tasteful and enduring of all jazz fusion bands. Four bonus tracks. Remastered originally released on LP in 1981, and on CD 1990. New liner notes by Bill Milkowski. Included are 4 unreleased demo's of the band.
